What is a Denture?
There are different dentures designed to help replace your natural teeth, and Dr. Theodore Safer Family & Cosmetic Dentistry we’re frequently asked to explain the different terms. Generally speaking, dentures are removable prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth.
Complete dentures are used to replace a complete set of teeth and are made of acrylic.
Partial dentures, also known as “partials,” replace only a few missing teeth and are made of acrylic and metal, or a flexible plastic material.
Over-dentures” is another confusing term, but it’s simply the name for dentures that fit over a small number of your remaining natural teeth or implants.
Another area of confusion for patients is conventional dentures versus immediate dentures.
Conventional dentures are given to the patient after the remaining teeth are removed and the tissues have healed. Immediate dentures are placed immediately after the removal of the remaining teeth.
Dr. Safer will address your unique situation with dentures that are perfect for your lifestyle and needs.
